RATING REQUIREMENT -- All new campers must have a minimum US Chess regular (not quick or blitz) rating of 1200 based on at least 10 rated games played. This rating must have been achieved since June 2015. Players with no US Chess rating, but a foreign or FIDE rating or category should contact to see if they qualify. Past campers are exempt from the minimum requirement.

AGE REQUIREMENT -- All campers must be at least 10 years of age on the first day of camp. NO exceptions.

Due to the intensity of camp and the high degree of independence and maturity expected of our campers, camp is not suitable for children younger than 10 and/or less experienced chess players. Our classes are made according to rating and without regard to age, so please consider whether your younger and/or less experienced child is ready to sit in a chess lecture for several hours a day and follow along with lessons that often rely heavily on the student's ability to follow chess notation. Can your child take care of his daily hygiene routine by himself? Can he successfully navigate an adult-sized cafeteria all by himself? Can he handle the daily schedule, which is absolutely crammed with activities from 8:30 AM until 9 PM every single day? (See daily schedule HERE.) Think carefully about these issues before you register.

  • $1,025 RESIDENT- Includes occupancy of a double room for 6 nights, Sunday through Friday. Includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner beginning with dinner on Sunday and ending with breakfast on the following Saturday (6 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 6 dinners). Includes linen rental (see FAQ for more on linens). Check out is from 10:00-11:00 Saturday. $20 discount if paying in full by check. 
  • $1,145 RESIDENT WITH TOURNAMENT- Includes occupancy of a double room for 7 nights, Sunday through Saturday. Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner beginning with dinner on Sunday and ending with lunch on the following Sunday (7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 7 dinners). Includes linen rental (see FAQ for more on linens). Also includes one entry into the Grand Prix Tournament. Check out is Sunday 3:00-5:30. $25 discount if paying in full by check.
  • $80 EXTRA FEE FOR PRIVATE ROOM- Only available for campers 18 and over on the first day of camp.
  • $50 EXTRA FEE FOR SUITE - Only available for campers 18 and over OR children rooming with a parent who is also a registered camper. Suites have private bathrooms, regular rooms share community bathrooms on the hallway. There is a higher cost due to the cleaning fee charged by Emory for the bathroom. (Note: the wing of the dorm with suites is separated and will NOT be supervised by camp counselors, which is why no unsupervised children may choose this option.) If sharing a suite, the surcharge is per person. 


Players with peak ratings of at least 1000 and a minimum of 10 rated games may be placed on a wait list by emailing Should a player's rating go over the minimum at any time before the camp is full, then the player may register at that time but will only pay the rate that was in effect at the time the player was placed on the wait list. Campers above 1200 who contact us after registration is closed also go onto the wait list. Players will be admitted to camp as space permits from the wait list according to rating strength and not in the order in which they were added to the list.


After you have paid, we certainly hope you will not need to cancel. However, should that become necessary at any time for any reason, send an email to If we can fill your spot, then you will be refunded all but $100. If we CANNOT fill your spot, then you receive no refund. Last-minute cancellations due to medical reasons will be considered on a case-by-case basis. In the event the camp is cancelled for any reason, all paid campers will receive full refunds. 

Note: There will be a $25 fine for any returned checks.
